Q. Who are you?
A. My name is Stephen Gallacher. I've recently graduated from Heriot-Watt University and am currently seeking graduate employment.
One problem I have encountered is the need for experience to get a job in the area related to my qualifications.
Therefore, I am willing to provide my expertise for free, in return for the experience I will gain which will improve
my portfolio and job prospects.
Q. Why are you carrying out the work for free
A. There is no charge for the energy and
environmental reviews as the main aim for me is to gain experience in this field
, while also helping small businesses
improve their environmental performance. From this,
both the businesses and myself benefit.
Q. Why are you only helping small businesses?
A. It can be very expensive for a business to carry out an energy and/or
environmental review, regardless
of its size. Small businesses especially tend to see reviews as non-essential expenses.
Q. What qualifications do you have?
A. For the past year I have studied for a postgraduate
masters degree MSc Sustainable Process Management from
Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh. Through this degree I
have studied many different areas including environmental
management systems (EMS), a vast collection of environmental
legislation from European Union level to application level
in Scotland. I have also examined environmental impacts
from causes through to consequences and
studied many different areas of sustainability including why
it is so important to operate in a sustainable way.
Further, I have a BSc (Hons) in Physics, also from Heriot-Watt
University, Edinburgh.
Q. What experience do you have in carrying out
reviews?
A. I have recently completed a 3 month in-depth energy
review and water review for a Tesco store in Colinton, Edinburgh
for my Masters Degree Project.
The results from these reviews have been forwarded to Tesco head office.
